This Bible is beautiful!! It's navy cloth over board with an elegant gold design on the cover and it comes in a permanent slipcase to keep it pristine. The inside is just as elegant with full page and individual illustrations in a glimmering gold ink. Each book of the Bible is introduced with a full page custom illustration that draws it's elements from the pages of that individual book. They are gorgeous! Throughout the Bible there are also 50 full page verse illustrations and 250+ hand-lettered verses in the margins as well as 100+ other illustrations. The margins are wide to allow for your own notes and journaling. It really is a stunningly beautiful edition of the Bible.
Now for the cons - the pages, although thicker than your normal bible, are not so thick that pen and ink won't show through. In fact the illustrations already in the bible show through. So I would say you would probably be limited in what you could use for journaling. Also, this is not a study Bible since there is no concordance, no cross-referencing, no footnotes, no red-lettering, etc. You would need to have additional study materials handy if that is what you are wanting. And it is pretty heavy so this particular version would not be one you would want to carry around.
This ESV Illuminated Bible would be a wonderful gift for someone wanting a beautiful unique journaling Bible for their quiet time at home. It truly is a gorgeous Bible.
