Review: The Rise of Miss Notley by Rachael Anderson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

To escape an undesirable match, Miss Notley must give up her riches for rags.

When Miss Coralynn Notley’s father barters her off to the first titled gentleman to come along, she realizes she must flee her home or be forced to wed a despicable man. Driven by desperation, she applies for the position of housekeeper at Tanglewood Manor, the home of the handsome Mr. Jonathan Ludlow.

The moment Jonathan sees Miss Notley, he is intrigued. She is far too young and inexperienced, yet there is something about her that that inspires a certain hope within him. Does he dare offer her the position of housekeeper or will doing so result in catastrophe?

I love Rachel Anderson's books!   And I really enjoyed this Regency story about a determined young lady who escapes an undesirable match by fleeing her home and going into the workforce.  Her skills, however don't match her position as a housekeeper which makes for some funny situations.  Her employer, Mr. Johnathan Ludlow, is a bit of a curmudgeon to begin with but he can't help but fall under her spell.

Another fun read with a well rounded cast of characters that lend a fullness and warmth to the story.  This is a sweet clean romance that will keep you engaged from the first page!

A USA Today bestselling author of clean romance, Rachael Anderson is the mother of four and is pretty good at breaking up fights, or at least sending guilty parties to their rooms. She can't sing, doesn't dance, and despises tragedies. But she recently figured out how yeast works and can now make homemade bread, which she is really good at eating.

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: A Fragile Hope by Cynthia Ruchti

~Don't forget to enter the GIVEAWAY below!~

My rating: 3 1/2 of 5 stars

About the book:
Hope grows when seeds are planted-even in the muddy middle of life.
Josiah Chamberlain's life's work revolves around repairing other people's marriages. When his own is threatened by his wife's unexplained distance, and then threatened further when she's unexpectedly plunged into an unending fog, Josiah finds his expertise, quick wit and clever quips are no match for a relationship that is clearly broken.
Feeling betrayed, confused, and ill-equipped for a crisis this crippling, he reexamines everything he knows about the fragility of hope and the strength of his faith and love. Love seems to have failed him. Will what's left of his faith fail him, too? Or will it be the one thing that holds him together and sears through the impenetrable wall that separates them?

My review:

A very emotional look at a marriage that's in trouble unbeknownst to the husband, who only realizes it after his wife is in a serious accident while in the process of leaving him.  With his eyes opened to the fact that his wife was not happy, he struggles to be there for his wife while working through the feelings of guilt and betrayal.

Although it is well written and has a happy ending, I had a hard time getting through the first part of the book because of the way that Josiah is operating off an assumption that's not true.  It was just frustrating to me for some reason.  I did appreciate, however, the fact that Josiah had some major character growth through the story because of the circumstances.  And I loved the secondary characters like his in-laws (who were awesome), the waiting room lady, and the second doctor who helped him not give up.

All in all, a good book with themes of forgiveness, hope, and learning to have a faith in God that will see you through.

About the Book

Book: Just the Way You Are
Author: Pepper Basham
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Single mom, Eisley Barrett, prefers to keep romance safely housed within a centuries-old mystery, but when she travels to England to unearth the secret, an actor with a sordid past offers her reluctant heart a very different type of discovery.

Wes Harrison has a past he’s ashamed to confess. Suspicious and cynical, he’s managed to avoid romantic entanglements since a tragedy upended his career and life, that is until American Eisley Barrett comes along. Her authenticity and kindness upend his bitter assumptions and send his heart into unscripted territory.

When his past threatens to ruin a second chance at love, can some Appalachian matchmaking and letters from the grave salvage their unexpected romance?

Humor, love, mystery, cute kids, crazy families, and culture clashes make this Britallachian Romance a unique and delightful romantic comedy sprinkled with adventure.
